Family Wins Contest to Host Playoff Celebration

CHANTILLY,
VA - In order to celebrate the
club’s return to post-season play,
D.C. United has announced plans to host
a BACKyard BBQ at the home of local fan
and season ticket holder Scott
Smurthwaite on Tuesday, October
28th, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm.
The
Black-and-Red clinched the MLS Cup playoff
berth, courtesy of a 1-1 draw with the
Kansas City Wizards on Saturday night.
The club will be making their first playoff
appearance since 1999, when United earned
a third MLS Championship by defeating
the L.A. Galaxy 2-0 in Foxboro, MA.
Scott
Smurthwaite and wife Sandra Tandeciarz
along with their three children, Nico,
Sebi and Sabine won the opportunity to
host the catered event as part of the
team’s promotional campaign, “We’re
Back.”
The
Bethesda, MD couple will be joined by
30 of their friends and family, local
media, and the team. “The season
has been filled with ups and downs, but
with the support of the fans, we held
the force and fought through,” said
Smurthwaite. “Now
that we’re back in the playoffs,
we’re looking forward to the MLS
Cup and another dynasty...
