Match Notes By El Cordobes

What a game!!! Really, what a game. This was our best game since the team was formed; and you can see that the team has been fully formed and complete. This tournament we started against the two best teams of the previous tournament. Last week in our first game we completely dominated the other team, but we did not get a goal. This week against the champions, was a typical classic Latin- American style game against Colombia. They already lost last week so they needed to win this week in order to be able to keep the cup. Before the game I noted that we had the desire to win the ‘clasico’ since we had 14 players at the start of the game, while they barely had 9 players. As usual we dominated the beginning of the game. We needed to get on the scoreboard as soon as possible and the goal came with a good play on the left; solid and spectacular by Charly Ruiz -- just as we anticipated last week when we said that, "the goals for Charly are going to come". Our defense was impeccable. This is a very solid part of the team, helping the team in the last 15 minutes of the first half to contain the Colombian advances. The outside backs, Sebastian and Sergio, put a padlock to the attackers on the wing, and when the other team tried to change the ball to the middle they found the wall of Ben, Raul and Matt. Also, the goalkeeper that gets better every game and transmits a lot of security. We have already played against the two best teams of the previous season and have not allowed a single goal. With a defense that understands its teammates moves and plays by memory and a solid goalkeeper, we can recreate the gold medal performance of Argentina at the Athens Olympics. The midfield had to come together at the end of the first half, but later showed that they could scratch and claw and controlled the middle of the field in the second half -- this is very important! Every team has lulls but it but important is to be able to regroup and that everybody help; the defense supported the middle and we endured as a team. The strikers suddenly ‘appeared with the lights’ hitting three goals, which is no small thing. Charly Ruiz has begun hitting so be very careful. Also, El Tano (Cosimo), the new striker. It should be noted that his girlfriend insists on good soccer (she is from Argentina). Between Alex, Charly and ‘el Tano’ they were lunatics going at the Colombians. MVP: Without a doubt, all of the defense (included the goalkeeper). If this continues it will be difficult to remove them as MVP all season. HM: Charly Ruiz, 'el Tano', and Alex, the fearsome forwards. They crushed the other team that they lost 'el clasico'. As Alex said at the beginning the tournament it will be difficult to beat us and now that seems reasonable. But don’t forget Alex that ‘el Cordobes’ said at the end of the last season that the team was being consolidated, but really now it seems completely formed. Vamos Toca todavia!!!!!! Charly, your influence seems to have spread to the midfielders, perhaps you will need to give some lessons in the future, keep it up as always Charly Ruiz!!!
